Fay Carathanassis studied law at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. During her studies she focused on competition law, intellectual property and media law. She then completed her legal clerk-ship at the Higher Regional Court of Munich. During her legal clerkship, she worked in the 33rd Civil Law Chamber of the Regional Court of Munich I (in the field of industrial property rights; copyright and film law), in a renowned media law firm and in the legal department of The Walt Disney Company (Germany) GmbH.

Since May 2021 she has been working as a research assistant at the Chair of Law and Security in Digital Transformation of Professor Dr. Dirk Heckmann. In this context, she also provides editorial support for the websites of the Chair and TUM Center for Digital Public Services (TUM CDPS) and provided significant support in the organization of the 17th and 18th International For..Net Symposium. In addition, she has been working at the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt) since November 2023 as a research assistant in the project "Challenges of Regulating Digital Communication Platforms", researching, among other things, legal issues relating to hate speech. She is doing her doctorate in media law.
