AffordingAccess (MPP)
How much accessibility in public transport can we and do we want to afford as a society?
The goal of the AffordingAccess project is to understand how much accessibility we as a society can – and are willing to – afford. While public transport is essential for social inclusion and economic productivity, service quality is declining in many countries – including Germany. At the same time, public investment is increasingly constrained. Using a large-scale stated preference survey in Munich, the project investigates, for the first time, how people value different aspects of accessibility – such as travel time, punctuality, frequency, and social impact – and how much they are willing to pay to improve or maintain them. The results offer new insights for user-oriented transport planning and more socially grounded infrastructure financing.
